There are a number of excellent museums in the area covering a vast range of interests and always a good choice when the weather is bad! Perhaps the crowning glory is on our doorstep with the Wiltshire Museum in Devises telling 500,000 years of Wiltshire's story in a brand new £750,000 gallery featuring high-quality graphics and leading-edge reconstructions and on display for the first time "Gold from the time of Stonehenge", dozens of spectacular treasures dating to the time of Stonehenge and worn by people who worshiped inside the stone circle.

3) Fox Talbot Museum >>

The museum celebrates the achievements of former Lacock resident, William Henry Fox Talbot, famous for his contributions to the invention of photography. Combine it with a visit to Lacock Abbey and the village.

10) The World of Jane Austen >>

11) Beckford's Tower & Museum >>

An extraordinary building that stands today as the only surviving example of William Beckford?s great architectural achievements. Visitors can climb up the newly restored Tower into the Belvedere for panoramic views over Bath & countryside.

12) Number 1 The Royal Crescent >>

The Royal Crescent is one of the world's best known landmarks. Built between 1767 and 1775 the sweeping crescent contains some 30 houses, one of which is Number 1 and open to the public with 10 historically dressed rooms, a new exhibition space and a well-stocked Georgian shop.
